Professor Ratemo Waya Michieka, Ph.D., M.Sc., EBS, SS, KNAS is an Agronomist, Weed Scientist, and Environmental Expert currently working as a Professor, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Nairobi. He is also the Honorary Secretary at Kenya National Academic of Sciences (KNAS).
Prof. Ratemo has previously served as the Founding Vice-Chancellor of the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) and the Director-General – National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). He has also worked in various capacities in numerous bodies in the public sector.
Prof. Ratemo is the author or co-author of various publications. From 1976 to Date, he has published over 76 publications. He has also initiated several research projects while at the University of Nairobi, Faculty of Agriculture which have been funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the World Bank. He has also been involved in many collaborative research projects that have attracted substantial funding for both personnel and physical development.
Prof. Ratemo has supervised the completion of various multidisciplinary Programmes by several M.Sc. and Ph.D. students in Agronomy, Weed Science, Agro-Forestry, Environmental Sciences, and Soil Science. He has served as a consultant, expert and trainer in various organisations. He has also participated in various workshops, conferences, and symposia, both local and international.
He is a member of several professional organizations including the Commission for University Education (CUE) Taskforce, the Kenya Institute of Education: Agriculture and Science Panel. He has also participated in various Non-Governmental Organizations’ in research such as KENGO, CBO, and Youth Groups.
