For the last 18 years, Kenya Institute of Management (KIM) has been running COYA Awards - a prestigious corporate event that recognizes organizations that have embraced Organizational Performance Index (OPI) Business Excellence framework. This recognition also incorporates SMEs (SME of the Year Awards - SMOYA) with a view to developing such enterprises to become bigger corporates as they contribute to the national economic development.

the journey to organization of the year


Receiving of applications from interested organizations to participate in COYA. Organizations then forward a list of OPI champions who’ll spearhead the process internally.


The OPI champions complete a comprehensive training on OPI implementation as part of the process.


The participating organization conducts self assessment backed up by comprehensive supporting evidence. This is then followed up by desk analysis from OPI external consultants, before a full day site visit assessment to the participating organization.


Consolidation of analysis into an advisory report submitted to the OPI technical committee.

Issuance of validated advisory reports to the participatants followed by presentation of feedback report.
